Inherent is a 22-minute narrative short film set in post-recession Michigan that delves deep into the intersection of economic hardship, corporate influence, and the ongoing crisis of human trafficking in the United States.
The film centers on a young woman whose search for answers uncovers painful secrets hidden within her own family. As she digs deeper, Inherent reveals the tangled web of systemic pressures and personal choices that trap individuals in cycles of exploitation—showing how these struggles are often closer to home than we realize.
After each screening of Inherent, we’ll host Q&A sessions with experts and advocates to spark conversation and provide practical resources. Screenings in Michigan are planned for January, coinciding with National Human Trafficking Awareness Month, and will continue into February. Our goal is to create a space where people can learn, ask questions, and feel empowered to take action.
By bringing this story to light, we hope to inspire communities to come together - to confront difficult truths, break the silence, and ignite real, lasting change.
